Engine and Performance

The FZ-X Hybrid retains the same 149cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine found in the standard FZ models. It produces 12.4 PS of power and 13.3 Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed gearbox. While the power figures remain unchanged, the hybrid assist gives it a slightly more responsive feel, especially during low-speed acceleration.

This hybrid setup is not meant to increase top-end performance but to improve fuel efficiency and smoothness, especially in stop-and-go traffic conditions. The bike’s mileage is expected to be better than the standard FZ-X, though official mileage figures are yet to be released.

Pricing and Competition

At ₹1.49 lakh, the FZ-X Hybrid is ₹20,000 more expensive than the non-hybrid FZ-X. It is also slightly more costly than the FZ-S Fi Hybrid, which offers similar features. However, considering the extra tech, better mileage, and advanced features, the price seems justified for buyers who want a long-term, efficient commuter bike.

As of now, there are no direct competitors offering hybrid tech in this price segment, giving Yamaha a first-mover advantage in the Indian 150cc commuter category.

conclusion

The Yamaha FZ-X Hybrid is a smart step towards more efficient and tech-friendly two-wheelers in India. With a reliable engine, hybrid support for improved mileage, and a stylish retro look, it’s an ideal bike for urban riders looking for something different. Though priced slightly higher than standard models, the value it offers in terms of features, comfort, and efficiency makes it a worthy upgrade.
